Jamie Nichols

Jamie Nichols was the Artistic Director and founder of the Pasadena based contemporary dance company Fast Feet for 23 years. Until retiring her dance company in 2003 she self-produced her work in festivals and venues throughout California. Ms. Nichols has been critically acclaimed for the emotional intensity and eloquence of her dancing and choreography.“A memorable performance for its depth of feeling”, “remarkable gestural detail”, “galvanizing”, from Lewis Segal of The Los Angeles Times, describes Jamie Nichols.

She is the recipient of six Lester Horton Dance Awards for Outstanding Achievement, the Dance Resource Center Of Los Angeles Meritorious Award for Outstanding and Extensive Years of Service, Overall Volunteer Community Service and Leadership in 2006 and honored at the 19th Annual Lester Horton Dance Awards with the Furthering The Visibility of Dance Award.

Jamie Nichols is Executive Producer of the successful annual CELEBRATE DANCE Festival at the Alex Theatre. She is the marketing director, fundraiser, press contact and sole producer for CELEBRATE DANCE. She has presented 40 dance companies at the Alex Theatre several more than once to over 11,000 audience members.

Jamie has also produced: modern dance icon Marion Scott’s Spirit Dances 10 at Highways Performance Space, the 16th Annual Lester Horton Dance Awards 2007 “Mile Stones of Los Angeles Dance” (the “Academy Awards” of California Concert Dance) at the Alex Theatre, The Los Angeles Dance Invitational Tribute To Stanley Holden and Tribute To Edward Villella at the Nate Holden Theatre and Co-Producer with Theater Bethune of Ray Bradbury’s Frost and Fire at the Alex Theatre.

As a social activist in her community of Pasadena, she created three site-specific performance pieces benefiting the Pasadena AIDS Service Center. Jamie Nichols continues to support other dancers, choreographers and companies and believes artists benefit profoundly from volunteering services to their communities.

She is currently teaching her own powerful and passionate method of Contemporary Dance at Live Arts Los Angeles and teaches Theatre Movement, Dance and Period Dance for Actors at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood, CA.
