Betzi Roe

Performance work: I Co-Founded and Co-Directed a contemporary modern dance company, 3’s Company & Dancers, in San Diego from 1972 to 1985. From 1985 to 2005 I was a solo dance artist – gathering works of California women choreographers, “California Women Dancing”, and later national choreographers with “The Solo Dance Collection”.

Choreography: I have created works in Ballet and Modern Dance for: 3’s Co. & Dancers, the California Ballet Co., South Hold Dance Theatre, St. Petersberg Conservatory USSR, Moscow City Ballet USSR, Pacific Chamber Opera, Ballet Pacifica, San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, San Diego Dance Theater and Mojalet Dance Collective.

Teaching with children: I was the Creative Movement Specialist for UCSD’s Early Childhood Education Center from 1990-97. I became a Teaching Artist for the San Diego Institute for Arts Education in 1986 and created lessons in aesthetic education for K-12 classroom for 10 years. From 1993 to 2005 I was a Teaching Artist for The California Arts Projects and a coach for the Middle School Demonstration Program linking arts lesson to core subject matter content.

Teaching high school: I have been the recipient of 3 California Arts Council grants and others, to create dance experiences in public high schools: Torrey Pines High, Canyon Crest High, Serra High, Mission Bay High and San Marcos High (1989-’96).

Teaching adults: I have been part of the Adjunct Dance Faculties at UCSD, San Diego City College, Southwestern College, Mira Costa College, and a Guest Lecturer at UCI.

Currently, I am Chair for the Dance Division of Coronado School of the Arts on the campus of Coronado High School and Director of the Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival.
