The Union Project Dance Company is an LA based contemporary company that features the collaboration of dance and original music. Since its founding in 2009 by choreographer Mariana Oliveira, The Union Project has also developed works in New York and Miami. The company has been invited to perform in festivals such as Avant Garde Festival, Pasadena Dance Festival, Adapt Festival, MixMatch Festival, Dance on the Edge Festival, and High Voltage Series. Performance venues include Judson Memorial Church, Lincoln Center and Tribeca Performing Arts.

The Union Project’s latest piece, W.S., created for the 450th anniversary of William Shakespeare, was the number 1 pick of the LA Weekly “5 Shows to See in LA”.

The Union Project creative process is a 3-way collaboration between the choreographer, composer and dancers. The process begins by selecting a temporary musical piece on which the choreographer creates the basic movements. The dancers are video recorded during rehearsals, and the composer creates music based on what he sees in the recording. The choreographer and dancers can then adapt to the new music, affording the opportunity to recreate and rediscover.

The company’s vision is to encourage the collaboration of artists from diverse backgrounds.
