The PGK Dance Project was formed by director Peter Kalivas in 1994 while he was working in Munich. The small company of five began touring and building an international presence. In 1996, Kalivas returned to the United States and reformed the company in New York city. Between 1996-2000, the New York based company toured, participated in festivals, offered master classes and produced concerts. Now located in San Diego, the company is a major producer at the center of the dance community. The PGK Dance Project is housed under The PGK Project, Inc., a non-profit organization that produces an array of programs and events throughout San Diego County. Among its popular events is Dance on the EDGE, an annual two-day outdoor festival in San Diego’s Little Italy. The company also serves as a cultural ambassador through dance with the US State Department bureau of culture and education and has represented American Contemporary Dance in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Central & South America, Africa, and Asia.
