Mary Daval

Mary Daval has had a varied and eclectic professional career. While still in high school she began playing the oboe professionally. An artistic restlessness and an inquisitive nature compelled her to seek additional creative outlets. She studied dance intensely and became a member of local modern dance company Eyes Wide Open Dance Theatre. Her choreography is featured in several award winning video art pieces created in collaboration with her husband, media artist Art Nomura. As her dance performance career wound down, she returned to music as a vocalist and joined the Los Angeles Master Chorale where she had the privilege of not only singing regularly with the LA Philharmonic, but also of working with renowned conductors, such as Zubin Mehta, Andre Previn, and Sir Simon Rattle. She holds a BA and MA in Dance from UCLA, and three levels of Orff Schulwerk certification from CSULA and Mills College. She continues to work as a soprano soloist and section leader in the choir of the First United Methodist Church of Glendale and studies ballet with Stefan Wenta. She is passionately committed to teaching in public school and has been a P.S. ARTS teaching artist since 2002.
