Fred Allen has been involved with the presentation of live performance for over 40 years.
His lighting has been seen on Broadway with Patrick Stewart’s solo performance of A Christmas Carol. Other stage presentations have included the LA productions of Catskills on Broadway, Cole, Blown Sideways Through Life, and The 24th Day.
Concert touring productions have included Jerry Herman’s Broadway Years, The Sounds of Rodgers and Hammerstein, and The Original 5th Dimension. Fred has also toured with Carol Lawrence, Diahann Carroll, Vic Damone, Vikki Carr, Leslie Uggams, Glen Campbell, Johnnie Mathis, and Nell Carter.
Dance and music touring has ranged from the Paris Opera Ballet, to Rudolf Nureyev and Friends, to the Aman Folk Ensemble. Musical touring has included The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Rod Stewart, and David Bowie.
Fred spent five years acting as the Production Manager for the Center for the Performing Arts at UCLA. During that time Fred worked on the 1984 Olympic Games and Arts Festival events staged on the campus.
Fred was instrumental in the re-opening of three historic theaters in Los Angeles: Royce Hall, the Wiltern Theater, and the Doolittle theater.
With his colleague, Steve Shelley, Mr. Allen created a partnership to manufacture and distribute Field Templates™, revolutionizing the concept of lighting design templates.
In 2014, Fred retired from Field Template. He is still involved in live production and Custom Templates, and lives in California.
